Omega does not catalog a Seamaster Planet Ocean with a 1000 meter depth rating. The Planet Ocean 600M is rated to 600 meters. The Ploprof is rated to 1200 meters. The Ultra Deep is rated to 6000 meters. Listings that say "Planet Ocean 1000m" merge names from two or three different watches, or invent a rating.

Where the number 1000 comes from

Omega sold a Seamaster 1000 in 1971, reference 166.091. That case carried a 1000 meter rating and used a monobloc design. The watch predates the Planet Ocean name, which Omega brought back in 2005. The Ploprof 600 from 1970 and the later Ploprof 1200M sit in the same family. A seller who writes "Planet Ocean 1000m" is mixing the 1971 Seamaster 1000 with the modern Planet Ocean case.

  1. Look up the reference number on the Omega site. If the number does not exist, the listing does not describe a real watch.
  2. Match the depth rating to the model line. 600M for Planet Ocean, 1200M for Ploprof, 6000M for Ultra Deep.
  3. Ask for a METAS test card. Master Chronometer watches ship with one.
  4. Compare case thickness. A 600M Planet Ocean measures between 15.6 mm and 16.1 mm depending on reference.
