A fake IW329135 is a counterfeit watch sold under an IWC reference number. Real IWC references use the format IW plus six digits. The 3291 block covers Aquatimer Automatic 42 mm models. Fakes copy the case shape and dial print. They fail on movement, caseback engraving, finishing, and paperwork.

Check the reference

IWC lists current and past references on iwc.com. WatchBase indexes calibres, case sizes, and production years. If IW329135 does not appear in either source, ask the seller for the full model name and a caseback photo. A reference that exists only in a listing is a red flag.

Six checks

  1. Caseback. Genuine IWC engraving is shallow and crisp. Reference, serial, and model name sit in fixed positions. Fakes show deep cuts, wrong fonts, or a serial number reused across many watches.
  2. Movement. IWC Aquatimer Automatic 42 uses the calibre 32111. A fake uses a generic clone, a Miyota, or a Seiko NH35. Check the rotor text, jewel count, and balance wheel. A 21,600 vph movement is not an IWC 32111, which runs at 28,800 vph.
  3. Dial and hands. Applied indices on a genuine IWC have sharp edges and even lume. Fake indices sit flat or show glue. Date font and alignment differ. The seconds hand on a fake can stutter.
  4. Crown and case. The crown threads engage in 2 to 3 turns. Fakes cross-thread or feel gritty. Brushed and polished surfaces meet at a sharp line on a genuine IWC. Fakes blur that line.
  5. Box and papers. Genuine IWC boxes have specific texture and printing. Fake cards use wrong fonts or blank warranty fields. IWC offers an 8-year warranty on watches registered after 2022. A seller who cannot produce a registration record is a risk.
  6. Price. A steel Aquatimer Automatic 42 sells for $4,000 to $6,000 used. A listing below $2,000 is a fake or a stolen watch. No legitimate seller loses that much money.

What to do

Ask for a video of the running movement and a caseback photo with today's date. Compare the serial number to IWC service records. Pay with a method that allows a chargeback. If you bought a fake, stop payment, keep all messages, and file a dispute.
